01 / OUR STORY

Built on
hands-on experience.

Our founder, Joseph “Joe” Schlegel, started in construction framing houses before becoming an electrician in 2002. With help from his wife, Ty, he went on to start Smart Electric.

Today, our team brings together electrical, heating, cooling, and generator expertise to help homeowners tackle repairs, plan improvements, and feel more confident about their homes.

Whether we’re troubleshooting a problem or planning a larger installation, our focus is the same: understand what you need, explain the options, and pay attention to the details.

Joseph Schlegel

Joseph is the owner of Smart Electric and has been an electrician since 2002. Prior to becoming an electrician, he worked in the construction field framing houses. He started the company with the help of his wife, Ty. They have two children, Koa and Kalea. They live in Everett and enjoy camping with friends and family.

Jason Trueblood

Jason and Joe have been friends since 2012 when Jason joined Joe’s powerlifting team. He spent 4 years in the Marines stationed in California and Okinawa. He and his wife, Natalie, live in Arlington with their dog Koda.

Jason has been with the company since the beginning. He started his electrical career as an apprentice in 2018 and made the transition to residential electrician journeyman, upholding the high standards of Smart Electric. He has extensive experience in home electrical, rewires and panel changes. His customer rapport and jovial demeanor make him a joy to have on any jobsite.

Keith Bowder

Joe and Keith met in 2020 when Keith started a relationship with Joe’s sister, Randi. His personality and experience made him a Smart Electric must-have! He lives in Edmonds with his girlfriend Randi and his son, Kyle.

Keith joined the company in 2021. Prior to joining Smart Electric he worked as an electrician for three years and an electrical project manager for ten years. He has extensive experience working with general contractors and their clients to achieve desired results on time and budget. Cowboy Keith brings his exceptional customer service skills (and cowboy hat and boots) to any job.

Devon Radach

Devon joined the company in 2021. He previously spent 10 years working with a small HVAC company where he worked his way up to lead installation journeyman and part owner. He met Joe when he hired Smart Electric to complete any electrical work that their customer’s required, and he appreciated the knowledge and quality of work that the Smart team provided. As he was ready to move on from his previous company, he knew immediately he would find a home with Smart Electric.

As the son of a contractor and interior designer he has been fascinated with building and creating since childhood. He turned that lifelong interest toward heating and air conditioning systems. He enjoys the never-ending opportunities to improve his craft and learn about advancements in the equipment we provide. His greatest satisfaction is interacting with customers, especially witnessing their happiness with their completed projects and the level of service they received.

Patty

Patty has been with Smart Electric since September 2021. She registers customers for Mitsubishi and Generac generator warranties. She lives in Lynnwood with her husband Jorge. Patty and Jorge are close family friends, with Jorge and Joe having been friends since grade school.
